Spontaneously got very happy and inspired today and went off to sketch. Just going to get them out quick and loose today. The break I had to take to do some IT work and socialize with newly returned friends seems to have worn off the intensity that I had when I first started over (again) and I think that's a good thing. It still has to be fun.
I have a little yellow duck that sings songs when you squeeze it's feet. Yay.

Azealia Banks - 212
This is just a perfect blend of everything hip hop needs. The English / US mix of sensibilities. The clean and stark video. The fast paced and clever rapping. The seamless vocal switches that tell of talent in so many styles. Keeping the teeth of the style's touchstones while going forward at the same time. Yes.
Cory Beetsch is secretly the protector of the unicorns. He'll never tell you this and change the subject if you ask, but his perseverance and that steady gleam in his eye are what's keeping magic alive in the world.

Forgot to use a hard detail pencil for facial features in today's sketch. Looks bad. I'm pretty happy with everything else though. It's not good but it's an improvement. Slowly getting clothing and poses down. That's my goal right now. The sketch came out well overall in spite of minimal blocking and being done quickly.
I'm looking forward to getting better.
I made a meatloaf today using proper fresh ingredients and it really payed off. I baked it in a cast iron skillet. Damn thing is so versatile. I've made cakes in the thing. Heat retention will see you through.
Wind is blowing through the house like a sieve. Cold as hell. I think my new pencils came today but I'm not walking across the highway in the dark in a blizzard.

Nicole Atkins - Neptune City
I'm really glad I found this. I hit a link on Greg Behrendt's twitter and liked it. A week later I found it on Amazon and bought it. It's now a month later and after heavy rotation it's one of my favorite album's of all time. A vocal album that's deep and has amazing layered arrangement.
Cory Beetsch holds a deep secret. One of his fingers is a six way screwdriver.

Ultimately I had to relearn how to draw after a steady absence of about three years. I ran through the standard tutorials and one I had never seen before involving a sack of flour. I gleaned some small tips from these, but overall I just need to practice. I am still stuck between about three styles. I still am really skewing proportions. I still need to use dynamic poses. I still am not happy with any of my work.
I got a few really good results in the twelve or so pages I've filled in the last few days. I'll try to reverse engineer them.
I ordered some Tombow Mono pencils. Kind of excited.
I made a near-perfect béchemel sauce today. Using a scale to get precise measurements of the butter and flour really helped. I used two parts milk and one part white wine. It became a Chicken a la King approximation.

Fit For Rivals - Heavy Damage
This is a great album. A bright indie punk band fronted by an energetic, rough-voiced woman. Imagine a polished-up Distillers.
Cory Beetsch once won the national "Most Beautiful Manicure Award" in 1988.
